Are YOU Coachable?

I have been a follower of Harvey Mackay since I first read his book, “Swim with the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive” in 1988. I recently read his post, “Are YOU Coachable.”

 

It caught my attention as a coach and as someone who believes in continually being coached.

 

I’d like to share some of his wisdom here with you. These are the traits he sees in coachable people. Ask yourself as you read this: “Are YOU Coachable?”

 

Coachable People:

  • They want more.

  • They want to learn as much as they can.

  • They have high self-esteem.

  • They’re curious. They ask lots of questions.

  • They embrace change and look for better ways to do things.

  • They seek out best practices.

  • They are willing to try new things and not afraid to make mistakes.

  • They don’t make excuses.

  • They are action-oriented.

  • They are good listeners.

  • They value lessons from others with greater experience.

  • They pursue mentors.

  • They are open to receiving feedback, which provides them an opportunity to improve.

  • They are accountable for their actions.

  • They are positive thinkers.

  • They are willing to learn at every age.

Lessons from Some Greats

Michael Jordan once said, “My best skill was that I was coachable. I was a sponge and aggressive to learn.” I have heard something similar said by Kobe Bryant.

 

If You Are an Entrepreneur, Ask Yourself: “Am I Coachable?”

As a business coach, working primarily with small independent business owners, these are important things I need to know when coaching my clients. “Are YOU Coachable?”

 

As a business coach, I continue to ask myself: “Are YOU Coachable?”  The answer has to be “Yes” for me to be the best coach I can be and help my clients achieve the success they deserve.
